In preparation for 2014 scholarship applications, the American Association of University Women (AAUW) Hilo Branch once again partnered with Kilohana, the Academic Success Center at the University of Hawaii at Hilo, to offer two writing workshops last month.
All students were invited to attend, since improved skills in creating a personal statement could assist any student in many facets of their lives; from applying for scholarships to enhancing their chances for success in future work environments.
Students were encouraged to take advantage of the services offered by the Academic Success Center to help polish their statements. It was also recommended that they optimize their search for information about potential scholarships by utilizing the UHH Financial Aid Office.
The AAUW Hilo Branch Scholarship application and instructions can be found on its website: http://hilo-hi.aauw.net/. All resident women with junior status or higher attending UHH may be eligible to apply.
Applications are due by April 1. Since applications must be accompanied by two recommendations from faculty or other relevant mentors, students are encouraged to make appointments with appropriate faculty in their academic department as soon as possible so that their submissions will meet the deadline.
The AAUW Hilo Branch Scholarship Committee was assisted by Karla Hayashi, Kilohana director, in providing networking and publicity on campus.
